Here's a list of 100 of my all-time favorite books about love, hugs, kisses and Valentine's Day. It's my favorite holiday, and one of my largest themed collections.
Increase vocabulary and practice spelling with 240 words associated with love and Valentine's Day. Includes an alphabetical list + 2 covers, so students can make a Valentine Dictionary. This makes an interesting and relevant Daily 5 word work activity.
Students match word cards to their contractions. (61-contractions are included) Children can also pick several cards and then write either the contraction or the words, depending on which cards they choose. For other activities, have students alphabetize the cards, sort them by color, sort them by vowels etc.
Doing a word search is a fun way to reinforce vocabulary words as well as spelling. This would be a fun game for your Valentine's Day party. Award a sticker to the first one done, or the one who has the most words found when the timer rings. Includes an answer key + links to more valentine word fun, including crossword puzzles.
How many words can you make using the letters in valentines? Challenge your students to find as many as they can before the timer rings.
A quick game to plug into your Groundhog Day activities. Set a timer, or let students work on their list throughout the day. Students can work on this independently or on a team. Includes a list of 66 words that I found. Share the list with your students after they have completed theirs.
A comprehensive annotated bibliography of 53 of my all-time favorite Chinese books, perfect for your Chinese New Year studies and celebrations.
Bookmarks are a sweet incentive to motivate your students, or simply tuck one in their desk or backpack as a little surprise. Includes a page of ways to say "Happy New Year" in Chinese, with links to helpful pronunciation sites.
The Dollar Word packet covers addition, critical thinking, strategy, cooperative learning, counting, and parts of speech. It's a great Daily-5 word work activity, as well as perfect for your 100-Day celebration.
Start out Martin Luther King Day by having one of 7 MLK bookmarks on your students' desks when they arrive. You could also use them as incentives and pass them out for accomplished tasks. Challenge students to collect all 7 and then share them with their friends.
