This packet has a lot of quick, easy and fun math activities, covering a variety of Common Core standards. They are versatile, so you can differentiate, making the lesson easier or more difficult to fit your needs and grade level. There are worksheets as well as dice, spinner and paper-pencil games for the following:
Practice place value with this easy and fun Cat in the Hat laminated place value mat. Students take turns calling out a 3-digit number. Using a dry erase marker, students write the number on the hat brim and then place that many number tiles in the appropriate columns. This is a quick and simple way to whole-group assess. When students have filled in their mat, they raise their hand. You can see at a glance who needs help.
Cover a variety of standards with these January-themed winter math worksheets. Use them for your math block, morning work, sub folder, something for early finishers to work on, a math center, or for homework. The template stays the same with changing clip art to keep things fresh and interesting. Students are empowered and get right down to work, because they are familiar with the format.
Students can draw in their own snowman face, or color my pattern. To turn these into dry erase "boards" cut squares out of glossy photo paper. Each student needs 4 to glue on top of the squares on their place value snowman.
Practice place value with this fun craftivity. Students trace, write, cut and glue the numbers under the appropriate "doors" that flip up, to reveal the year. Students practice subtraction by subtracting the year they were born, from the New Year to get their age.
This packet is perfect for a daily or weekly table top lesson, math center, something for early finishers to do, nice for a sub folder activity, or great practice for a take home worksheet.

Review place value in an interesting way by having students find the place value of Columbus' special date: 1492. Includes a 1492 place value mat + place value manipulatives for 1's, 10's, 100's, & 1,000's place value cubes and rods. Make this even more fun by playing a game. Students choose a partner and take turns spinning the place value spinner. The object of the game is to be the first to collect all of the place value cubes and rods that make up the year 1492. As another math extension, have children figure out the current year and then subtract 1492 from it to find out how many years ago Columbus sailed the blue.
