The easy reader alphabet flipbook incorporates 60 Dolch words!  Students trace the word and lowercase letter, which match the cute uppercase picture.

You can also laminate the pages and use them as pocket cards.

I’ve included an ABC anchor chart as well as 26 traceable flashcards, with a cover, so students can make an Itty Bitty booklet.

For a quick center activity, have students trace the upper and lowercase letters on these bookmarks.  To reinforce vowels, have children trace them in a different color.

Students glue the strips to a piece of construction paper. One side has uppercase letters, the other side lowercase.

Add a bit more pizzazz by punching a cut out or gluing a school photo to the bottom.

It’s also a nice time to review all of the letters of the alphabet to make sure your students are retaining what you’ve taught them.

What better way to do that than with Band-Aides!

I made a boo-boo alphabet, using that “must-have” first aid equipment that a teacher simply can’t be without, and decided to turn the letters into an alphabet booklet that would reinforce parts of the body, which is a Y5 report card standard.

I had to get a little creative with some of the letters, but I think you’ll find this unique ABC book interesting and fun.

Simply make one for yourself as a teacher’s copy, and read it to your students or use them as flashcards, or print off copies for your entire class and use as a whole group writing/reading center.

It’s also a fun activity to send home for the summer.

Hey Super Student Syllable Sleuths, Let's Go On A Word Hunt!

Some teachers like to make up packets to send home over the summer so that students don’t forget things that they learned over the year, or perhaps you need a home-school connection right now for those little ones still struggling with some of their letters.

I designed a fun activity called ABCDe-tective Home Alphabet Word Search.

Children trace the upper and lowercase letters, (you can also have them write them) and then scamper around their home looking for words that begin with each letter of the alphabet.

When they find one, they write it down in the appropriate spot.

There’s a blank space in the magnifying glass so students can write the capital letter as well.

This packet includes a letter home to parents explaining the project + a certificate of praise and an ABCDe-tective Achievement Poster to list the student’s names who complete the booklet, if you decide to do this as an all-class activity.

It includes:

  • A large magnifying glass template to make scampering around the room a bit more fun and "detective-like"
  • A small magnifying glass template for locating and "framing" words, letters, shapes and numbers in books, charts, papers etc.
  • Two detective badges.
  • The ABCDe-tective treasure hunt list complete with picture icons.
  • 26 upper and lowercase alphabet cards.
  • Covers to make Itty Bitty books.
  • 38 word wall "read-around-the-room" word cards.  These can also be turned into another Itty Bitty book.
  • 38 picture cards.  Use these to play a Memory Match game, make pairs, put next to the words on the word wall, include in the Itty Bitty books and
  • 2 certificates of praise.

My Y5’s always enjoyed taking these “just the right-size” booklets home to share with their families, which helped reinforce the lessons that they learned.

They also liked collecting all of the different little booklets each month.

Make extra sets for in class.  Run the uppercase letters off on a DIFFERENT color from the lowercase ones and laminate them so that you can play Memory Match games.

I find that if you differentiate the sets via color, you make it less frustrating for little ones to play memory games and they don’t take an inordinate amount of time either.

You can also distribute the cards an play “I Have…Who Has?”

Besides these traceable word cards, I help my students learn letters by making up Bingo songs.

The Bingo song is a great way to review the concept of subtraction and a clapping pattern as well + students LOVE singing.

What better way to review who the President and Vice President are of the United States than with this little song.

There’s also a set for counting by 2’s and 3’s.  All have covers so that the students can make individual Itty Bitty Booklets as well.

Finish up the counting activities by getting the wiggles out and have students count backwards from 20 or 10.

Once they’ve jumped into the air they can bounce out to their lockers and take their booklets with them.
